Celebrating Easter in a Place Filled with Natural beauty and Splendid Customs
Santorini is an enchanting destination attracting millions of travelers from around the world all year. Most people have combined its charms with the everlasting summer of Greece and they are not mistaken. However, Santorini is an equally splendid destination to explore all year round. Especially during Easter, when spring has bloomed nature and the sun comes up most of the days, this island of Cyclades is a sight for sore eyes. So if you have been wondering where you should celebrate this wonderful time of the year with the most distinctive religious colors and tradition, look no further!

The week before Easter all locals start the preparations for the great feast. All the neighborhoods that have been worn off by the severe impact of winter are now being whitewashed. The cobbled pathways find their vivid character again and the clay pots are filled with colorful flowers. Intoxicating aromas from the blossoms fill the air, while the jasmine and lavender, lemon trees and basil compose the most magical scents. Housewives dye the eggs red and make Easter cookies, as well as other traditional sweets that will accompany Easter festivities. On Holy Friday, the Epitaph Procession takes place and everyone joins in with a candle in their hands. In some parts of the island, there are lanterns with small candles leading the way for the Epitaph.
After the Resurrection, people kiss and embrace one another exchanging sincere wishes for health and prosperity. And then it is time for the Easter Feast! Both on Saturday after midnight and on Sunday from early in the morning, the table is laid with all the delicacies you can think of!
